Nursing Students Present Comfort Cart to CMH

June 23, 2008

It didn't take long for a group of nursing students from Lake Superior State University (LSSU) to really get involved at Cheboygan Memorial Hospital (CMH). Earlier this year, a handful of them decided to develop a cart that would provide comfort items to those patients and their families dealing with end of life care.

A couple of months later, the idea quickly became a reality. The Patient Comfort Cart is now stocked with items such as books, movies and quilts - thanks to the efforts of the nursing students.

"It was their initiative and their passion that made this project successful." according to Reinette Murray, Assistant Professor of Nursing for LSSU. Shw helps coordinate the college's nursing program at CMH. "I am so proud of them. We'll continue to take donations, especially twin size quilts. People can call me at (906) 430-0309, or e-mail me at murray2@lssu.edu.

"This is outstanding. These students are a tribute to the nursing profession and will touch many people's lives with this effort," said Beth Daugherty, CMH Vice President and COO.

First Community Bank of Cheboygan purchased the cart for this project initiated by the LSSU Nursing Class of 2009. Many other Cheboygan area merchants also donated items to stock the cart, which is designed to comfort patients and their families during end of life care.
