Affiliation Talks Move Forward

The recent announcement regarding potential affiliation between Spectrum Health and Munson Healthcare emphasizes the need for all health care organizations to consider strategies that will provide long-term sustainability in this very challenging economic environment.

Our current affiliation discussions with Northern Michigan Regional Health System remain on track. Both sides continue to express interest in bringing the organizations together and hope to conclude this effort before the end of March.

It is evident that most health care facilities throughout Michigan are looking at how to align services and provide better access in developing plans for delivering quality care in the future. Much of this is being driven by the current economic factors in our state, along with reductions in reimbursements coupled with under insured and uninsured patients.

Meanwhile, Cheboygan Memorial Hospital will make the appropriate and responsible decisions necessary to ensure our long-term viability. This focus helps guide our mission of providing quality healthcare services for our community.
